Morgan smacked five fours and three huge sixes in his flamboyant knock and added 67-run stand in 30 balls with Jacques Kallis to leave Sunrisers bowlers clueless.
Kallis also played handy knock, smashing six boundaries in his 27-ball 41 before got run-out on the last delivery of the innings.
Morgan and Kallis led Kolkata Knight Riders with flurry of boundaries after losing Gautam Gambhir.
Ashish Reddy gave Sunrisers Hyderabad a huge breakthrough by dismissing Gambhir. Skipper Gambhir led Knight Riders from the front as he notched up 39-ball fifty with the help of six fours and a six.
Sunrisers Hyderabad's Karan Sharma broke the 59-run opening stand between Kolkata Knight Riders' Manvinder Bisla and Gambhir. Karan struck in his first over when Bisla played it to the deep mid wicket where Hanuma Vihari pouched it safely.
Kolkata Knight Riders got off to a good start as their openers Bisla and Gambhir scored 48 runs in the first six overs of mandatory powerplay and laid good foundation for the hosts in their must-win game. Gambhir smashed a boundary over midwicket to complete half-century stand.
Earlier, Knight Riders skipper Gautam Gambhir won the toss and opted to bat against Sunrisers.
Knight Riders have made one change, bringing in Sachithra Senanayake in place of Ryan McLaren while Karan Sharma has replaced Anand Rajan for Sunrisers.
Back home after two successive away defeats, Kolkata Knight Riders will be hoping to revive their fortunes.
The defending champions began their campaign on a winning note against Delhi Daredevils but failed to sustain the momentum against Rajasthan Royals and Royal Challengers Bangalore.
