IPL: Dhawan, Reddy help SRH set 160

NEW DELHI: Comeback man Shikhar Dhawan hit a gritty 63 while Ashish Reddy made a quick-fire 36 (16) to guide Sunrisers Hyderabad to a sizeable 159/6 against Chennai Super Kings in the IPL clash at the MAC stadium on Thursday.

Dhawan was hurt on his lower abdomen when he was six short of his half ton. In the 14th over Dwayne Bravo's short-of-length delivery hit Dhawan, forcing him out of the ground.

However, the Hyderabadi returned not only to hit his half-ton but also help the side set a challenging target for the hosts with his inevitable knock.

He was ably supported by Reddy who slammed unbeaten 16-ball-36, including three sixes and two boundaries.

Earlier, Sunrisers Hyderabad got off to a poor start after electing to bat against Chennai Super Kings in the IPL clash at the MCA Stadium.

Mohit Sharma gave Chennai a dream start by dismissing Quinton de Kock in the first over.

Kock (4) was caught by Murali Vijay at mid-on after hitting a boundary.

Hyderabad then suffered another blow on the final ball of the second over as Hanuma Vihari (2) got run out, leaving the side at 12/2.

After 25-run stand, Cameron White (2) became second victim of Sharma, giving an easy catch to man behind the stumps.

R Ashwin inflicted fourth blow to Hyderabad by dismissing Amit Mishra (15) after 24-run stand with opener Shikhar Dhawan.

Thalaivan Sargunam was the fifth man to fall after Shikhar Dhawan got retired hurt following an injury at lower abdomen.

Chennai made no change to their playing XI while Hyderabad will get the service of Shikhar Dhawan who stages a comeback after recovering from a hand injury.

Hyderabad, like the Super Kings, have five wins from seven matches, although they did not achieve it with the same fluency and authority of that of the Lions.

Expectations will be high when Shikhar Dhawan walks out to bat for Sunrisers Hyderabad against CSK here on Thursday. The exciting Delhi left-hander's return from a hand injury is a huge boost for Hyderabad who have been struggling with their batting.

Sunrisers Hyderabad: S Dhawan, Q de Kock, GH Vihari, CL White (c), DJG Sammy, X Thalaivan Sargunam, KV Sharma, A Ashish Reddy, A Mishra, DW Steyn, I Sharma
