IPL 6: Karthik, Rohit power MI to 209/5

MUMBAI: A swashbuckling knock by Dinesh Karthik and a solid unbeaten half-ton by Rohit Sharma powered Mumbai Indians to a mammoth 209/5 against Delhi Daredevils in their IPL clash at the Wankhede stadium on Tuesday.

Scorecard

After losing both openers for just a run on the board, Dinesh Karthik slammed 48-ball-86 and shared a solid 132-run stand with Rohit Sharma for the third wicket to set a solid platform for the highest total in the tournament so far.

Rohit, who till Karthik's stay looked calm, took charge and demolished Delhi attack in the death overs with his big hits to put Mumbai on top in their third clash. Rohit slammed 50-ball-74 that was studded with four boundaries and five dazzling sixes.

Earlier, Delhi got off to a dream start as Mumbai openers were back in hut as with just one run on board.

Pacer Irfan Pathan gave Delhi first breakthrough by getting rid of Ricky Ponting (0) on the final ball of the first over before Mumbai got off the mark.

Ponting came down the track and tried to loft Pathan over mid-off, but struck it straight to Mahela Jayawardene.

In the next over Tendulkar got run out, giving Delhi edge in the early overs.

However, Karthik soon turned the tide in Mumbai favour. He single handedly guided Mumbai past 100 in just 12 overs.

Karthik's dismissal came in the 15th over at the score of 133. He hit 14 boundaries and two sixes during his brilliant innings.

Mumbai Indians will have the service of star pacer Lasith Mailnga along with Rishi Dhawan.

Daredevils on the other hand will miss opener Virender Sehwag who is yet to recover from injury. However, the good news for Delhi is that Morne Morkel is back. The pacer replaced Andre Russell. The visitors also brought in Jeevan Mendis for Johan Botha.

For the Mumbai Indians, this will be their third big game in a row. They lost to the Royal Challengers Bangalore but beat the Chennai Super Kings in their own den.
