Chawla scalps Smith to dent Mumbai

NEW DELHI: Dwayne Smith hit a 32-ball 33 before Piyush Chawla had him caught by David Miller at long-on in their IPL 6 match at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Monday.

Smith hit a six and 3 fours in his knock.

Sachin Tendulkar edged a Praveen Kumar delivery onto his stumps as Mumbai Indians got off to a bad start.

Mumbai lost their second wicket when Dinesh Karthik edged a Manpreet Gony delivery onto his stumps. Karthik hit a six and 2 fours in his 19-ball 25.

The breakthroughs for Punjab came after Mumbai captain Rohit Sharma won the toss and chose to bat.

Mumbai are unchanged from the last match.

Punjab have brought in Shaun Marsh, Parwinder Awana and Manpreet Gony for Adam Gilchrist, Bhargav Bhatt and Harmeet Singh.

Mumbai outclassed Royal Challengers Bangalore by 58 runs in their last match to score their second straight win after two successive losses and got their campaign back on track.

Mumbai batting has a settled look now and delivered big time in the three home games by rattling up huge scores of 209/5 against the Delhi Daredevils, 194/7 against RCB and 183/3 against Pune Warriors.

The bowling attack, in which Lasith Malinga and Mitchell Johnson also pose a danger to the opposition, appears well-rounded and would present a big challenge to Punjab on the bouncy track that is the hallmark of Wankhede.

David Hussey will captain Punjab in the absence of Gilchrist.

The inclusion of Mandeep Singh, who has the ability to clear the ropes with nonchalance and has scored 219 runs in eight matches, as Gilchrist's partner has certainly given a better look to the batting.

With another experienced Aussie campaigner, David Hussey (165 runs in 8 matches), too not among the runs, the batting has struggled.

The visitors bowling attack too looks a bit weak, especially in the spin department, barring the experienced Piyush Chawla who has taken only three wickets after figuring in eight games.

Teams:

Mumbai Indians: Rohit Sharma (Capt.), Dwayne Smith, Sachin Tendulkar, Dinesh Karthik, Kieron Pollard, Ambati Rayudu, Harbhajan Singh, Mitchell Johnson, Lasith Malinga, Dhawal Kulkarni, Pragyan Ojha.

Kings XI Punjab: David Hussey (Capt.), Shaun Marsh, Mandeep Singh, Manan Vohra, David Miller, Azhar Mahmood, Gurkeerat Singh Mann, Piyush Chawla, Praveen Kumar, Manpreet Gony, Parvinder Awana.
