Bangalore lose Dilshan after slow start


NEW DELHI: Chasing a massive 195-run target, Royal Challengers Bangalore lost Chris Gayle (18) and Tillakaratne Dilshan (13) in quick succession after a cautious start against Mumbai Indians in their IPL match at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Saturday.

Ambati Rayudu took a well-judged catch near the boundary rope to help Mumbai dismissed the dangerous Gayle and reduced the visitors to 37/2 in 6.5 overs.


Dhawal Kulkarni gave Mumbai their first breakthrough of the match when he dismissed Dilshan in the sixth over. Dilshan and Gayle failed to provide a quick start for Bangalore as they managed just 35 runs in 5.4 overs.


Electing to bat, Dwayne Smith, Dinesh Karthik and Kieron Pollard came up with brisk knocks to power Mumbai Indians to 194/7.


Mumbai lost their seventh wicket when Saurabh Tiwary took a good diving catch at deep mid-wicket to dismiss Harbhajan Singh off Ravi Rampaul.


Mumbai lost three wickets in three balls as their innings hit a roadblock.


Bangalore captain Virat Kohli ran out Dinesh Karthik and Ambati Rayudu with direct hits and then Ravi Rampaul took a superb running catch at short third man to dismiss the dangerous Kieron Pollard off R Vinay Kumar.


Karthik hit a six and 3 fours in his 33-ball 42, Rayudu fell without facing a delivery and Pollard's 16-ball 34 was studded with 3 sixes and 2 fours.


Mumbai Indians lost their third wicket when Rohit Sharma was run out by a good throw from AB de Villiers.


Sharma hit a Syed Mohammad delivery through the covers that was fielded by De Villiers just in front of the boundary and the South African rocketed in a throw from the deep and as Sharma went for the second run, Dinesh Karthik refused and Mumbai captain was run out.


Dwayne Smith smashed a 36-ball 50 before he was clean bowled by Syed Mohammad.


Smith's knock was studded with 3 sixes and 4 fours.


Sachin Tendulkar smashed 23 runs off 13 balls before falling leg before wicket to RP Singh.


The breakthrough for Royal Challengers Bangalore came after Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma won the toss and chose to bat.


Mumbai have brought in Dhawal Kulkarni in place of Yuzvendra Chahal, while Bangalore have left out an ill Murali Kartik and replaced him with Syed Mohammed.
