AB de Villiers runs out Rohit Sharma

NEW DELHI: Mumbai Indians lost their third wicket when Rohit Sharma was run out by a good throw from AB de Villiers in their IPL match at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Saturday.

Sharma hit a Syed Mohammad delivery through the covers that was fielded by De Villiers just in front of the boundary and the South African rocketed in a throw from the deep and as Sharma went for the second run, Dinesh Karthik refused and Mumbai captain was run out.

Dwayne Smith smashed a 36-ball 50 before he was clean bowled by Syed Mohammad.

Smith's knock was studded with 3 sixes and 4 fours.

Sachin Tendulkar smashed 23 runs off 13 balls before falling leg before wicket to RP Singh.

The breakthrough for Royal Challengers Bangalore came after Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma won the toss and chose to bat.

Mumbai have brought in Dhawal Kulkarni in place of Yuzvendra Chahal, while Bangalore have left out an ill Murali Kartik and replaced him with Syed Mohammed.

It will be imperative for Mumbai to get Chris Gayle early if they are to continue their winning momentum, after the positive result against Kolkata Knight Riders.

For the record, Gayle had smashed his way to the fastest century in the history of T20 cricket in his team's massive win over Pune Warriors. And the strapping Jamaican has it in him to do an encore once more.

With Gayle in such roaring form, no total can be called safe, and that is why Mumbai would look to score as many as possible.

Dwayne Smith and Rohit Sharma engineered Mumbai to a morale-boosting win over Kolkata in their last away match. But Sachin Tendulkar failed to rise to the occasion on his 40th birthday, and the veteran batsman will look to make up for that.

The five-wicket win over Kolkata would have surely boosted Mumbai's confidence, as it came after two heavy defeats -- to Rajasthan Royals by 87 runs and Delhi Daredevils by nine wickets.

On the other hand, Bangalore, especially Gayle, would look to continue from where he had left the other day. He is leading the run charts with 432 runs.

RCB captain Virat Kohli, too, has been in good form with 333 runs, while AB de Villiers has been the perfect foil to both Gayle and Kohli, scoring quick runs towards the end.

Pacers R Vinay Kumar and Ravi Rampaul have been outstanding, especially in the absence of Zaheer Khan.

Teams:

Mumbai Indians: Rohit Sharma (Capt.), Dwayne Smith, Sachin Tendulkar, Dinesh Karthik, Ambati Rayudu, Kieron Pollard, Mitchell Johnson, Harbhajan Singh, Dhawal Kulkarni, Pragyan Ojha, Lasith Malinga.

Royal Challengers Bangalore: Virat Kohli (Capt.), Chris Gayle, Tillakaratne Dilshan, AB de Villiers, Saurabh Tiwary, Arun Karthik, Ravi Rampaul, R Vinay Kumar, Syed Mohammad, Rudra Pratap Singh, Jaidev Unadkat.
