Australia ended the fourth and penultimate day at 75/3, trailing by 16 runs, after bowling out India to 499 in their first innings.
At stumps, Phillip Hughes (53 batting) is fighting hard in company of nightwatchman Nathan Lyon (4).
Whatever Australians gained in the first two sessions on Day 4, was surrendered, when they lost three quick wickets, all to Bhuvneshwar Kumar.
Bhuvneshwar produced a brilliant spell to remove openers David Warner (2), Ed Cowan (8) and Steven Smith (5), who was promoted ahead of injured captain Michael Clarke.
Adding to the Australians' anxiety is the question mark surrounding Michael Clarke, who suffered a back injury on Sunday and it is uncertain when and where the Aussie skipper will bat if the team needs him. Throughout the day Clarke was troubled by his back and was seen stretching in the middle during the passage of play.
India lead the series 2-0 after convincing wins in Chennai and Hyderabad, and seemed to be on course to clinch the series.
