Manchester, Mar 17: Premier League witnessed some dramatic results at both ends of the table as Manchester City's hopes were dashed by Everton while Aston Villa moved out of the drop zone with a win over relegation rivals QPR.
Leon Osman's first half stunner and an injury-time goal from Nikica Jelavic ended Manchester City's title hopes as 10-men Everton won 2-0 at Goodison Park. The Toffees moved above Liverpool in sixth place while City are 15-points behind league leaders Manchester United.
Wayne Rooney's solitary goal was enough to take United 15 points clear at the top with just nine games remaining in the season. Roooney scored his 16th goal of the season to help United win 1-0 against Reading at Old Trafford.
Aston Villa came on top against Relegation rivals Queens Park Rangers as Cristian Benteke's late striker earned them three vital points to keep them out of the relegation zone. Gabriel Agbonlahor and Andres Weimann scored for the home side beating QPr 3-2 at Villa Park. Jermaine Jenas and Andros Townend scored for QPR. Villa are now six points clear of the drop zone with 30 points.
Arsenal kept their Champions League hopes alive with a hard fought 2-0 victory over Swansea City at the Liberty stadium. Nacho Monreal scored his first goal for the Gunners and Gervinho scored late on as Arsene Wenger's side moved within two points of fourth placed Chelsea.
Liverpool's chances of qualifying for Europe hit a new low after losing 3-1 to Southampton. Goals from Morgan Schneiderlin, Rickie Lambert and Jay Rodriguez were enough to seal three points after a brilliant display. Liverpool got the consolation from Philippe Coutinho and were second-best throughout the game.
Stoke City and West Brom Albion remained scoreless at the Britannia Stadium. Romelu Lukaku tested Asmir Begovic with a few threatening shots while Peter Crouch and Marc Wilson had the best chances for stoke.
