Dhawan set to misss final Test versus Oz

MOHALI: Indian cricket's latest sensation, Shikhar Dhawan, is set to miss the fourth and final Test against Australia, starting in his hometown Delhi from March 22, due to a hand injury.

Dhawan didn't take to the field on the final day and also could not open in India's second innings.

Skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni said that Dhawan "may not" play in the final Test due to the injury he sustained on his left hand while fielding on the fourth day yesterday.

"Shikhar may not play in the final Test. You will soon get to know the official confirmation," Dhoni told reporters at the post-match press conference on Monday.

Dhawan bludgeoned his way into the record books with an unbeaten 168-ball 185, the fastest-ever Test century by a debutant, in India's first innings, which paved the way for the hosts' six-wicket win over Australia and an unassailable 3-0 lead in series.

Dhawan reached the three-figure mark off a mere 85 balls, surpassing the previous record held by West Indian Dwayne Smith.

In the post-match presentation ceremony, Dhawan said, "I fell on my knuckles when I dived."

Dhawan was Sunday night seen outside the Fortis Hospital in Chandigarh with two bandages.

A precautionary x-ray was performed on the 27-year-old batsman that revealed no fracture, but sources claimed doctors had advised the swashbuckling opener not to bat in the second innings.
