London, Mar 24: England international and Tottenham forward Jermain Defoe feels veteran Frank Lampard can continue playing another two years and wants Chelsea to offer him a new contract as he is irreplaceable.
Lampard, 34, is out of contract at the end of the season and Defoe feels his incredible goal-scoring record cannot be matched by any midfielder. Lampard scored his 28th goal for England, highest by any midfielder, in the 8-0 thrashing of San Marino in the World Cup qualifiers.
A former team-mate at West Ham United, Defoe said: "I don't know his situation at Chelsea but in my opinion he is someone you can't replace because of the amount of goals he has scored over the years."
"He is a special player. He can easily go on for another two or three years," he said.
Lampard's contract with Chelsea expires at the end of the season and there has been no talks about extending his stay at the Bridge but Defoe thinks otherwise.
"I'm sure Chelsea won't get rid of him. He is a special player," he said. "At the end of the day you know you are going to get goals. You know what you are going to get from Frank and goals win games."
Lampard, who captained the national side in Steve Gerrard's absence, has been eyeing a move to the MLS with LA Galaxy, but will consult England manager Roy Hodgson on his future.
Despite winning 8-0 against San Marino, Enfland face a stern test with Montenegro on Tuesday. They maintained their two point at the top of the group with 1-0 win over Moldova.
Meanwhile, Lampard, who scored his 200th goal against West Ham last time out, is just two short of Bobby Tambling's club record.
