Delighted with the squad, at his disposal for this year’s edition of Indian Premier League (IPL), Virender Sehwag, Delhi Daredevils captain is confident that if his side plays to its prospective it can build in the play-offs of the T20 tournament, IPL 2012.
He said, with pace bowling and strong batting line up at his disposal for this IPL season, Delhi Daredevils have the possibility to top in this year’s IPL.
Sehwag said, “I evidently requested for certain players (during the auction) and acquired them, specifically Andre Russell, Ross Taylor, Kevin Pietersen and Mahela Jayawardena. Confidently, we will deliver good performance and reach the expectations of Daredevils’ supporters.”
In a statement issued by the Delhi Daredevils, Sehwag said, “I think it is great that our squad has so many Indian bowlers in the force. Hence I can offer opportunity to overseas batsmen to be a part of playing eleven. I believe that the bowlers we have like Shahbaz Nadeem, Irfan Pathan, Umesh Yadav, Varun Aaron and other all-rounders, can do a good job as a bowling unit.”
“Usually Twenty20 is a batsman’s game and in case if the bowlers can prevent the opposite team to reach 150 or 160 or probably 180, we will be able to chase that down with the type of batting order we possess.”

Even though volatile Delhi batsman regretted the non-existence of a world-class spinner in the squad, Sehwag said his team has the weapons in its pace bowling unit to trouble any team.
He said, “I think we have tried every possible thing and were not left with sufficient in the auction budget to acquire a quality spinner. We actually wanted some quality batsmen instead of one quality spinner.”
He also said, “We can depend on our fast bowling unit which is pretty good. I think Varun Aaron and Umesh Yadav did a great job whenever they played during the last edition as did Morne Morkel and Irfan Pathan.”
Sehwag is currently undergoing a swelling in his sacroiliac joint and is not present in the Indian team in Bangladesh for the current Asia Cup.
However, the right-hand batsman said he would come back to complete fitness soon and was about to play the whole IPL season this year, which is commencing on April 4, 2012 in Chennai.
“I hope, I will be alright and will begin working on my strength once my swelling is gone. I did not play the whole IPL edition previous year due to my shoulder injury but I am eagerly waiting to play this year’s whole season for Delhi Daredevils,” he said.
