It is fun to watch a fight over Mother’s Day. Particular when it is you or at least your Mothers Day Gift money they are going to the mat about. Barnes & Noble, Borders and Amazon.com are going all out for the marketing edge this holiday.
Barnes & Noble needs to make a statement now that they have forced their primary brick and mortar competitor to withdraw to the comfort of Chapter 11 and sell off some prime real estate and yield up some residential retail market share in several cities.
Borders is hanging tough and sacrificing to the bone just to say to not give up on us yet. Borders wants you to know that you can still find great gifts, bargains and rewards by shopping with them.
Amazon.com is well the tax free alternative to going to the mall to shop for Mom this week.
Barnes & Noble is all over the sales ring. They open with a flurry of promotions like their up to 50% off Mothers Day Gift Guide. They follow with an upper cut Great Books for Mom buy one online and get the 2nd at ½ price. Featured books are mom pleasing favorite authors like Mary Higgins Clark. Books like Water for Elephants, The Uncoupling and The Help are offered.
B & N says that if you can’t decide to let Mom decide. Sometimes Mom knows best. Get her a Barnes & Noble gift card that says For Mom. She can use it online or in the store. If you buy two items they will throw in a Mom’s Tote for just $4.95.
Way cool is the Mothers Day Book for Mom and Grandma that the kids create themselves online. And surprise mom with the Nook color. B & N is the only one that has it.
Borders comes back with the popular Every Day is Mothers Day by Hilary Mantel. Normally sells at $14 you get it for $8.40 a 40% savings. Or to get the kids into the mood and swing of things mom can buy her own book to read to them called Famous Nancy’s Mothers Day Brunch by Jane O’Connor. It sells for $6.95 and ships in less than 24 hours. These are just a sampling. Borders has over 200 Mothers Day themed books for prevue.
Borders features the Kobo Wireless ereader as their answer to Barnes & Nobles Nook and Amazon’s Kindle. It sells for just under a $100. Check out the Borders Get Published section at $49 where the shopper can create their own eBook and then into a paperback of their own. Imagine Mom’s surprise and delight.
Amazon.com for any holiday is Amazing.com. Particular for this Mothers Day is an intriguing line of jewelry items. One item for $14 is a 14 carat gold plated heart pendant on an 18” chain that has engraved the words A Mother holds a Childs Hand for a Short While but their Heart Forever. Their list of Mothers day gifts is over 130,000 items. The original ereader is the Kindle which sells with additional contracts at $114.00 which is less than half of the cost of the Color Nook.
