Super Bowl 2011: The Play of QB Aaron Rodgers and Linebacker Clay Matthews Will Win Super Bowl XLV for the Green Bay Packers.
As we get closer to Super Bowl XLV on Sunday, it's time for Super Bowl picks.
I have the Green Bay Packers defeating the Pittsburgh Steelers, 23-20.
First off, both teams have excellent defenses. The Steelers gave up a league-best 14.5 points per game in 2010. The Packers were second, giving up 15.0 points per game.
But I honestly think Packers linebacker Clay Matthews will have a bigger impact on the game than Troy Polamalu, simply because of his ability to sack the quarterback.
The Steelers' offensive line has been banged up all year and the last thing they need is to line up against a guy who had 13.5 sacks in the regular season.
If Steelers center Maurkice Pouncey doesn't play, that's a big loss, and opens things up more for Matthews.
If Pouncey does play, he won't be 100 percent anyway.
I also think Packers QB Aaron Rodgers will outplay Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger. I think he's been the better quarterback this season and this is his year.
I think the Packers as a whole are ready to supplant the Steelers as the next big powerhouse in football.
They have all the makings of a great team, a dominant defense combined with a high-octane offense.
They are a complete team more than anything else, and they're geared not only for the Vince Lombardi Trophy this year, but for years to come.
