The build-up to the match has been tough for the Kiwis after Tuesday's disaster which killed at least 95 people.
Skipper Daniel Vettori said: "The whole country is hurt immensely and the team feels exactly the same way."
Physio Dayle Shackel and trainer Bryan Stronach flew home because their homes were badly damaged.
Australia captain Ricky Ponting added: "We're neighbours and sort of treat each other as brothers. We'll make sure we do that tomorrow."
