ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 - Schedule

The ICC World Cup 2011 begins Saturday when Bangladesh takes on favourites India at Dhaka. Forty Nine absorbing games in store - 42 group stage games, 4 quarter-finals, 2 semis and a final make up the 49 games. Interestingly, India features in the first and the 42nd game. The quarter-finals start March 23 - Wednesday. Around the time when school exams in these parts are in full swing.

The Final is to be played in Mumbai on April 2nd while the two semis are slated in Colombo and Mohali. Only one Quarter Final is in India - at Ahmedabad. Two Quarter Finals are in Dhaka and one in Colombo. Twelve day games and 37 day and night games.

Predictions are flying thick and fast. While two or three upsets can be expected, the top eight test playing nations are expected to qualify for the Quarter Finals without breaking much sweat. The warm up games in India point to the toss being vital, while matches in Dacca and Colombo have been even and batting-friendly. India start favourites but Sri Lanka and Pakistan are formidable teams under these conditions while Australia can never be written-off. Let the best team win. Let the games begin.
