Harare: Former Zimbabwe captain Alistair Campbell has been appointed managing director of the country's cricket board.

Chairman Wilson Manase confirmed on Wednesday that the 42-year-old Campbell - who played 60 tests and 188 ODIs as a batsman - will assume the post at Zimbabwe Cricket, a role which will see him take charge of the day-to-day running of the organization.

Incumbent ZC managing director Wilfred Mukondiwa will be redeployed to a new role.

Campbell's appointment was confirmed a day after Australian Dav Whatmore was officially presented as new Zimbabwe coach on Tuesday.

Manase said "the changes are continuous. As you know, following the appointment of Dav Whatmore, we are also searching for a batting coach before the World Cup."

Campbell was previously chief selector and later chairman of the body's cricket committee.
